To work, to pray, to play in the Light of the Lord

Children's University

James Milner

On Friday 22nd May James Milner was announced as Chancellor of Leeds Children's University. Although James now plays for Manchester City he grew up in Horsforth and  he still spends a lot of time here in Leeds. As Holy Family is part of the Children's University programme we were invited to the official launch with James Milner. Mrs Utting went along with Mason, Carys, Stephanie, Tanisha, Ella-Rois and Leon. They had a fantastic afternoon with a football coaching session, a photo opportunity with James and the chance to ask him questions about his career, inspirations and his family and friends!'

Children's University Super Saturday - 14th March

We were delighted to have a good turn out from Holy Family at this event. Our children and their families, took part in an Easter Egg hunt around the university campus in order to learn more about life as a university student, made and tasted hot cross buns and put together a dance routine with the help of Hunslet Hawks Dance Academy.

It was a very enjoyable morning and the children earned three stamps for their passports! There are two more Super Saturday events planned for the Summer term which we hope will be well attended by our pupils and their families.

We would like to thank you for the support and encouragement you have shown to the Children's University programme.

Super Saturday at Leeds Trinity University!

Saturday 31st January 10:30 - 12:40

The launch of the Children’s University has been very successful with many of our Key Stage 2 children being credited with passport stamps for the activities they take part in outside of school. I wish to provide you some updated information about the validated Learning Destinations where your child/ren can earn stamps.

  1. To date we have validated the following Holy Family run Clubs:
  • Netball
  • Cross Country
  • Mathletics
  • Choir
  • ACE
  1. The children can also earn stamps by attending events run at the following Learning Destinations:
  • Leeds Discovery Centre
  • Abbey House Museum
  • Kirkstall Abbey
  • Leeds Art Gallery
  • Leeds City Museum
  • Armey Mills Museum
  • Lotherton Hall
  • Temple Newsam
  • Thwaite Mills Watermill
  • Thackray Medical Museum
  1. Children’s University activities involving animals are extremely popular with children and the PDSA have prepared materials which can be found at: http://www.pdsa.org.uk/about-us/education. The PDSA are already a validated Learning Destination so we can issue stamps if your child/ren choose to engage with their learning activities out-of-school-hours.
  1. Leeds College of Art: They are also one of the Learning Destinations and have places left on their new courses starting in January. Courses cost £75 and are delivered in 5 Saturday morning sessions, each lasting 2½ hours. Can I ask you to have a look at LCA’s Saturday Art School information on their website: http://shop.leeds-art.ac.uk/browse/product.asp?compid=1&modid=5&catid=54. LCA is one of our learning destinations and has procedures in place to assist appropriate families with the financial costs. See http://www.leeds-art.ac.uk/study/childrens-art-school/bursary-places/
  1. Children’s University activities will also be held at Leeds Trinity University during the year and in school holidays. The first of these has been arranged for Saturday 24 January. I will send out more details next term.

We do appreciate the support and encouragement you give to your children in all these activities.
