Year 1 Home Learning 2021

Welcome to our Home Learning page.

I am devastated that we cannot all be together in the classroom, but I hope we can still have lots of fun learning and playing from home!

Phonics and English- 9am Zoom

Today we will continue looking at the /oe/ sound.  I was really impressed with how well you all did on Wednesday when we first looked at it.

Today we will continue looking at the characters in Little Red Riding Hood.  I want you to write a character description to describe Little Red Riding Hood and the Woodcutter.  You might remember doing this the other week to describe the wolf in The Three Little Pigs.

Maths- 11am Zoom

After our success on Wednesday with Number Bonds to 10 I would like you to explore number bonds to 20.  I have attached some activities you might want to draw in your red books?  Or you can use 20 things such as Lego, pasta or pencils to help you find them all.

Thursday 21st January 2021

Please remember to use Miss Clayton's Zoom details this morning! Fingers crossed it works properly this week...

If you would like to send any work or ask any questions, my email address is aclayton@holyfamilyleeds.co.uk

Guided Reading - 9am Zoom

We will re-read Peace At Last by Jill Murphy and you will need to decide if the statements below are true or false. In your books you could just write the number of the statement and 'true' or 'false'.

As an extra challenge, I wonder if you could write some more true statements about the book to show me how much you can remember? You could also draw some pictures of the true statements if you wanted to.

If you need to look back at the book, scroll down on this page to last Thursday's work and you will be able to see the slides.

Science - 11am Zoom

Last week I asked you to find some objects around your house made from metal, wood, plastic and glass. This week we will start to think about describing the properties of materials. I would like you to find something hard, soft, rough, smooth, shiny and dull around your house. Remember to do this with an adult so you are safe!

As an extra challenge, I wonder if you could also tell me what material the object is made from?

PE - Independent

Could you have a go at the activity below? Remember to be safe while you are playing the game.

You could also try this video where you need to exercise like each letter of the alphabet:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0673xHfNnw

As an extra challenge, could you spell your name or a tricky word with exercises?

I would love to see some pictures or videos of you enjoying being active!

Our English work today is looking at the start, middle and end of the story.

Maths- 11am Zoom

Today we are adding using  a number line with numbers up to 20.  We have looked at this a little bit with numbers up to 10 so it will be familiar to some of us.  Below is an activity to try.  It doesn't need to be printed- you can draw your own number line in your red books.

Science- Weather- Independent

Help, I don't know what to wear!!!

Can you think of the clothes you need to wear in Summer and Winter?  Could you draw pictures of the types of clothes you wear in each season?  Do you have any of these clothes at home?  Remember you don't need to print and can just draw in your red book!

Friday 15th January 2021

Guided Reading - 9am Zoom

Today we will be reading the story 'Peace At Last' by Jill Murphy.

Your task is to explain what stopped Mr Bear being able to sleep. Use the sheet below to help you write sentences in your red book. If you would like to print the sheet you can but you do not have to.

If you need to read the story again you can use the PowerPoint or click the link below to hear the story being read out loud.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U9y35kWBvM&feature=youtu.be

Science - 11am Zoom

We are learning about everyday materials this half term.

I would like you to go on a treasure hunt to find objects around your house that are made from wood, plastic, glass and metal. Remember that some of the objects might be sharp or dangerous, so ask a grown up to help you.

You could draw the objects in your book and label them with the correct material (wood, plastic, glass or metal) or you could use your whiteboard to label the object and take a picture.

The PowerPoint is below if you need to look back at it.

Challenge: Can you find anything in your house that is made from more than one of the materials we are learning about?

The weather is a bit cold and miserable so it might be a good idea to try some Cosmic Yoga inside. Remember to make sure you have plenty of space around you before you start so that you are safe!

The link below will take you to a Cosmic Yoga story about Marv the Metal Detector then some 'brain break' activities with Jamie.

Phonics and English- 9am Zoom

Today is the /ph/ sound and this is a very strange one- it makes the same sound as /f/.

Your English task today is to edit your work from yesterday.  This is a very grown up task but I think you will be fantastic at it.  Look at your sentence using an exclamation mark, can you make it better?  Could you use an adjective to make it sound more interesting?

Maths- 11am Zoom

Keep thinking of the words 'more' and 'less' today as we are comparing groups of objects.

Geography- Independent

In our Geography work we are going to be exploring what the difference is between a town and city.  Have you ever been shopping into Leeds City Centre or to Armley Town Street?  Can you look at the work below for me?

Tuesday 12th January 2021

Phonics and English- 9am Zoom

This morning we will be having another look at the /wh/ sound and how it has a secret 'h' that we don't sound out.  https://phonicsplaycomics.co.uk/comic_ph5a_which_new_pet.html You might want to read this comic after to try and read some words with the 'wh' sound in it!

Your English task this morning is to try and write a sentence about something that is exciting or shocking.  You need to use an exclamation mark to punctuate the sentence.  Make sure you send them to me so I can see them!

Maths- 11am Zoom

Today we are looking at 'one more' and 'one less' with numbers up to 20.  Can you choose some numbers and tell me what one more and one less is.  You don't have to print the sheet, you can just write this straight into your red books!

Science (Weather)- Independent

Can you look out of your window and describe the weather?  What is it like?  Can you watch the weather forecast https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast-video/21416953 .  Look at how the numbers tell you what the temperature is going to be.  Could you write down what the weather is like every day this week and try this activity? (If you don't want to print it you can draw the symbols and write down what they mean!)

Monday 11th January 2021

R.E.- Independent

Our topic this half term in R.E. is Families and Celebrations.  Today, I want you to think about what 'family' means and why it is so important.  Family means 'to belong' and is very important to us.  Your challenge today is to draw 2 circles in your red work book.  In the first circle I would like you to draw the people in your family at home.  In the other circle I would like you to draw the people in your family at school.

You could try finishing these sentences if that helps you?

The Wolf was wearing...

The Wolf has...

The Wolf's fur is...

The Wolf has ....... teeth.

Maths- Independent

I hope you have been enjoying these videos to help you with your number work.  I like that you can start and stop them to give you time to find the answers!  Today we are looking at tens and ones.  This might be a bit tricky for grown ups as it was called tens and units a while ago!
