Year 4 Home Learning

Summer 1 Home Learning - Monday 10th May- Friday 14th May 

We are so sad that we are now working from home again, but we are very excited to still see your smiley faces on zoom!

Each day, you will find the work that we would like you to complete at home including any slides and resources that you may need to support your learning. 

It would be great to see all of the work you complete so please email any pictures.

Friday 14th May - Fancy Dress Friday 

Don't forget, if you would like to, you can come to our sessions dressed up in your fancy dress outfits!

9:30am - English (Writing) - Today, we would like you to write a paragraph to persuade Mr Waddingham that we should wear our school uniform instead of our own clothes. Again, think carefully about addressing the reader and try to use a rhetorical question in your paragraph.  

11:00am - Maths - Problem Solving Friday - We will be answering a selection of word problems involving addition and subtraction.

1:00pm - Science - We will be thinking about our topic of the 'Rainforest' and creating food chains and food webs for animals that live in that habitat. 

Thursday 13th May 

9:30am - English (Writing) - Today, we would like you to write a paragraph to persuade Mr Waddingham to let you wear your own clothes to school. Think carefully about addressing the reader. Use the sentence starters to help structure your paragraph.  

11:00am - Maths - We will continue our learning journey of decimals. Today, we will be recognising hundredths as decimals using a place value chart. 

1:00pm - Religious Education - Today is the 'Feast of the Ascension' so we will be thinking about why today is important and what the Ascension means. We will then be creating our own image of the special day, using various paintings to support our ideas. 

Wednesday 12th May

9:30am - English (Writing) - Today, we will be continuing our new writing genre of Persuasion. We will be creating FOR and AGAINST statements for whether you should wear your own clothes to school.  

11:00am - Maths - Today we will be continuing our work on dividing decimals, and we will move on to dividing a 2-digit number by 10.  

 

1:00pm - French and PE - In the afternoon session, we will be continuing your French work with Mrs Merdani on animals.

Tuesday 11th May 

9:30am - English (Writing) - Today we will begin a new genre in English - Persuasive Writing! In our lesson, we will be looking at the features you would find in a persuasive piece of writing.  

11:00am - Maths - Today we will be dividing a 1-digit number by 10 and recognising that the number is becoming 10x smaller.  

1:00pm - Religious Education - As the month of May is dedicated to Mary, we will be learning more about who she was and how we can honour her by completing a variety of activities. 

Monday 10th May 

9:30am - English (Reading) - We will recapping what has happened so far in our story. Your activity is to answer retrieval and inference questions based on Chapter 5 - Food Almost. 

11:00am - Maths - We will be recognising tenths on a number line. You will find all of resources you will need for the lesson below.  

1:00pm - Computing - You will be using the internet to research deforestation and creating a poster to share what you have found out. There will a prize for the poster with the most facts!

Year 4 we are so proud of each and every one of you!

We have loved your enthusiasm to learn and how mature you have been during our sessions. You have worked so hard and now it is time for you to have a break!

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Rock, Paper and Scissors met each other?

When Rock happens to meet the magical Paper, it's love at first sight. But when the wrath of Scissors threatens the well-being of Paper, Rock must stop at nothing to save what he loves most, no matter the cost.

Activities 

  • Write character profiles for the 3 main characters.
  • Write a description of paper from the point of view of Rock.
  • Think about the game and how Rock could defeat scissors.
  • Create a wanted poster for Scissors.
  • Create setting descriptions for each character's home.
  • Write the story from the point of view of each character.

All is peaceful on the Southern ocean as the penguins relax on their icebergs.  That is until Dr. Hammer and his sardines decide to test their weapons of mass destruction. Once the weapon is unleashed there is only one 'person' to save the world from disaster and that is...Spy Fox!

 

Write the next adventure of Spy Fox using a different wild animal as the villain. 

Design a 'Bond-like' gadget that fox could use in his missions. 

Remember to include: fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and inverted commas.
