Phonics and English- 9am Zoom

Can you write a sentence about why you love someone?  Maybe your Mummy, or Daddy, or a friend?

Today we will be looking at one more and one less with numbers up to 50.  Can you get the flashcards out you made the other day.  Choose a number and then write down what is one more and what is one less.

Remember it's really important to be active for at least 60 minutes every day. Being active helps us to stay healthy and happy.

Well done for the fantastic number lines you all made yesterday- numbers up to 50 are a lot harder!  Today we will explore tens and ones, so you will need the flashcards you made again.  I want you to mix the numbers up, choose one, then tell a grown up how many tens and ones are in that number.

In our English lesson we will be learning about Nouns.  Today I would like you to look at your Reading Book and write down a list of all of Nouns you find.  Don't forget to send me a photo of your list.

9am Zoom - Guided Reading

We will read the story 'How To Catch A Star' by Oliver Jeffers.

Can you tell me how the boy felt when he could not catch the star? How do you think he felt when he finally got a star?

11am Zoom - Science

Can you help the Gingerbread Man? He needs an umbrella made out of a waterproof material.

Should he use kitchen roll, tin foil, cling film or a plastic bag? Can you explain why? 

If you do not have the materials I have listed, ask your grown-ups if there are any other materials you could test instead. Remember to be really careful not to make a mess with the water! 

Independent - P.E. 

 Even though it is tricky at the moment, remember it is really important to be active for 60 minutes every day because it helps us to be healthy and feel happy. When you try these videos make sure you are in a safe space. 

 

To get your body warmed up and ready for exercise, try this Minion Zumba video first. It is a bit silly but lots of fun! 

This type of workout is called a HIIT which stands for High Intensity Interval Training. It will get your heart pumping and make you quicker and stronger. 

This video focuses on throwing and catching which will really help develop your co-ordination. It's amazing what you can do with just a tissue or some toilet roll! 

Yoga is really good for our bodies but also helps us feel calm and relaxed. In this episode, Jamie goes on an adventure with a dolphin called Popcorn to try and get to the treasure ahead of the pirates...

Phonics and English- 9am Zoom

We will keep looking at the /ai/ay/a_e/ family sound today.  

In English I want you to look at the plan you wrote yesterday for your story.  Can you try and write the whole story today?  This is quite a long thing to write so you might want to have a break or have a snack part way through.  Can you start your story with 'Once upon a time'?.  In our Zoom we will look at how we can write for longer.

Today you will need your number lines to help you subtract.  Remember that we are making numbers smaller when we subtract or take away.

Following on from all of our work in Geography where we looked at town and city, I now want you to design your own place to live.  It could be a town with a lovely park and small shops.  Or maybe you will design a city with a swimming pool and cinema? If we were in school together, we would be building our town or city using different materials.

11am Zoom - Science

We are still thinking about describing everyday materials like wood, plastic, glass and metal. This week we will be learning some new words which are a bit tricky! If you need to look back at the slides they are below. 

Can you make groups of objects that are:

  • flexible
  • inflexible
  • transparent
  • opaque 

For an extra challenge, can you also tell me what the objects are made from? Are all the objects in your groups made from the same material?

Time for another new sound.  Today we will be looking at /ey/.

Phonics and English 9am Zoom

Today we will be having another look at the /au/ sound in Phonics.  This is tricky as it can be spelt /au/or/aw/ and we have to learn when to use each spelling correctly.

In English we will be looking at the adjectives we gathered yesterday and use them to write descriptive sentences.  We will have another look at the basket that Little Red Riding Hood took to Grandma too.  I can't wait to read your sentences!

Today we will continue looking at the /oe/ sound.  I was really impressed with how well you all did on Wednesday when we first looked at it.

Today we will continue looking at the characters in Little Red Riding Hood.  I want you to write a character description to describe Little Red Riding Hood and the Woodcutter.  You might remember doing this the other week to describe the wolf in The Three Little Pigs.

Guided Reading - 9am Zoom

We will re-read Peace At Last by Jill Murphy and you will need to decide if the statements below are true or false. In your books you could just write the number of the statement and 'true' or 'false'.

As an extra challenge, I wonder if you could write some more true statements about the book to show me how much you can remember? You could also draw some pictures of the true statements if you wanted to.

Last week I asked you to find some objects around your house made from metal, wood, plastic and glass. This week we will start to think about describing the properties of materials. I would like you to find something hard, soft, rough, smooth, shiny and dull around your house. Remember to do this with an adult so you are safe! 

As an extra challenge, I wonder if you could also tell me what material the object is made from?

Phonics and English- 9am Zoom

Today is a new sound in Phonics- /ew/.  In English we are going to be looking at a new traditional tale- Little Red Riding Hood.  Make sure you join me to listen to the story.  It has a familiar character in it that we have met before.  When we finish our Zoom, do you think you could try these questions?

  1. Who was Little Red Riding Hood going to visit?
  2. What did Little Red Riding Hood’s, Mummy, tell her not to do?
  3. Who does Little Red Riding Hood meet in the forest?
  4. What happens to her Grandma?
  5. Who saved Little Red Riding Hood?
  6. What was your favourite part of the story and why?

We are continuing with the work we did last week about 'greater than' and 'less than'  (< and >) but this time we are ordering 3 objects.  Sometimes we will start with the smallest object and sometimes the biggest.  After our lesson, can you ordering 3 different groups by their size?  Send me any pictures you have as I love to see them!

Today I want you to look at the Church Family.  This is a bit tricky as we can't visit Church and chat with Fr. Neil but I want you to think about Baptism.  Maybe you have some pictures of your Baptism?  Or the candle or the white blanket you had?  Do you have any questions about the picture below?

Today we are going to continue looking at 'greater than' and 'less than'.  In the lesson we will look at how we can use the < and > signs.  Your challenge today is to try and make yourself some flash cards with the < and > symbols and use them with your toys.

Today we will be reading the story 'Peace At Last' by Jill Murphy. 

Your task is to explain what stopped Mr Bear being able to sleep. Use the sheet below to help you write sentences in your red book. If you would like to print the sheet you can but you do not have to.

Science - 11am Zoom

We are learning about everyday materials this half term. 

I would like you to go on a treasure hunt to find objects around your house that are made from wood, plastic, glass and metal. Remember that some of the objects might be sharp or dangerous, so ask a grown up to help you. 

You could draw the objects in your book and label them with the correct material (wood, plastic, glass or metal) or you could use your whiteboard to label the object and take a picture.

Challenge: Can you find anything in your house that is made from more than one of the materials we are learning about?  

P.E. - Independent

 The weather is a bit cold and miserable so it might be a good idea to try some Cosmic Yoga inside. Remember to make sure you have plenty of space around you before you start so that you are safe!

Phonics and English- 9am Zoom

Today is the /ph/ sound and this is a very strange one- it makes the same sound as /f/.

Your English task today is to edit your work from yesterday.  This is a very grown up task but I think you will be fantastic at it.  Look at your sentence using an exclamation mark, can you make it better?  Could you use an adjective to make it sound more interesting?

Your English task this morning is to try and write a sentence about something that is exciting or shocking.  You need to use an exclamation mark to punctuate the sentence.  Make sure you send them to me so I can see them!

Today we are looking at the /wh/ sound in Phonics.  Your English task it to read the text below and spot all of the exclamation marks.    You can either read it on your own or have a grown up help you.

Our topic this half term in R.E. is Families and Celebrations.  Today, I want you to think about what 'family' means and why it is so important.  Family means 'to belong' and is very important to us.  Your challenge today is to draw 2 circles in your red work book.  In the first circle I would like you to draw the people in your family at home.  In the other circle I would like you to draw the people in your family at school.

Today we will continue looking at characters and in particular, The Big Bad Wolf.  I want you to imagine that the Police are looking for him because he is so naughty.  Can you write a character description to describe the wolf?

In English today we are looking at characters and which ones are goodies and which are baddies.  Today I would like you to write a sentence about how you know the wolf is a baddy in the story.  And then another sentence about how you know the pigs are good.

Today we are starting our new book called 'The Three Little Pigs".  This is one of my favourite books and I love getting to read it.  Your first English task is to give an opinion.  Can you write a sentence about why you like the book?  Don't forget your finger spaces, capital letters and full stops!
