Early Years at Holy Family

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a vital first step on each child’s journey through Holy Family School. During this time, we endeavor to give each child the best possible start to their school life, in a warm, safe, caring environment, where each child is valued and encouraged to develop academically, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. In line with our school’s Mission Statement and in order to provide for the individual development of each child we...

•      Appreciate the child’s past and continuing experience of life, working with families.

•      Understand and accept children’s different rates of development.

•      Value learning already achieved and develop positive attitudes to learning.

•      Provide equality of opportunity.

We have designed a curriculum using guidence from Development Matters and Birth to 5, to help give each child the confidence to grow, play and learn and to prepare them for their journey into the National Curriculum as they start Year 1.   We take inspiration from The Curiosity Approach and Hygge to make our learning environments calm and safe for learning to happen.  We choose to back our displays with a natural toned grey with a black border and use greenery to soften our environment.  We consider what we use in our environment to encourage children’s curiosity such as by using loose parts and natural materials.  We use lighting carefully to try and make our environment feel like a safe home where children can express themselves.
